The changing role of design in society

This is a live pod about the changing role of design in society, that was recorded Oct 18 2024 at Luleå University of Technology. In the pod, two visiting design researchers discuss the past, present and future use and impact of design in society. The participating researchers are:

  • Andrea Botero Cabrera - Associate Professor of Design, Alto University, Finland. Her research focuses on participatory design, studying opportunities and contradictions in participants' understandings of the design spaces available to them and how designers can create infrastructures for such spaces, with the aim of promoting livable futures.

  • Håkan Edeholt - Professor of Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, Norway. His research focuses on transformative design, where over the last decade he has been particularly engaged in the development of a new field of design, combining design, development, innovation and foresight as a 'glocal' measure to address urgent issues of global justice, long-term sustainability and climate change.
